Monday 31 of May, at 4:50 in the morning, special forces of the Israeli army, with helicopters and dinghies, attacked the ships of Free Gaza Movement, using live munitions.

according to israeli JTA.org ,” 14 activists onboard a flotilla of ships bound for Gaza were killed during rioting after Israeli Naval forces boarded the ships to redirect them to an Israeli port”

When Naval Forces boarded the shops, they were attacked with metal clubs and knives, as well as live fire, according to a statement by Israeli Defence Forces. “The demonstrators had clearly prepared their weapons in advance for this specific purpose,” the statement said, adding that the Navy then used riot dispersal methods, which include live fire.

This attack took place in international waters, 80 nautical miles outside Israel’s and Gaza’s coasts. Apparently it was the Turkish ship Mavi Marmara with 560 people on board firstly to be stormmed.

from BBC

Audrey Bomse, a spokesperson for the Free Gaza Movement, which is behind the convoy, told the BBC Israel’s actions were disproportionate.

“We were not going to pose any violent resistance. The only resistance that there might be would be passive resistance such as physically blocking the steering room, or blocking the engine room downstairs, so that they couldn’t get taken over. But that was just symbolic resistance.”

She said there was “absolutely no evidence of live fire”.

Israel says it will tow the boats to the port of Ashdod and deport the passengers from there.

Condemnation

Turkish TV pictures taken on board the Turkish ship leading the flotilla appeared to show Israeli soldiers fighting to control passengers.

The footage showed a number of people, apparently injured, lying on the ground. A woman was seen holding a blood-stained stretcher.

Al-Jazeera TV reported from the same ship that Israeli navy forces had opened fire and boarded the vessel, wounding the captain.

The Al-Jazeera broadcast ended with a voice shouting in Hebrew, saying: “Everybody shut up!”
